Aka Turtle Rocks. On SH 1 between Dunedin and Oamaru lies random spherical boulders on the coast. I remember the day we saw them; it wasn’t planned. Mother Nature is a very beautiful thing along with timing. We were driving, and I flipped through my Lonely Planet to see if there was anything in the area. These rocks were close by, and it was getting close to dusk as well. So we arrived at a perfect time. When we arrived, there were about 5 other people with their professional cameras while we had our little compact cameras. I asked one guy if something special was happening that night, and he said no it’s just perfect timing for taking pictures. He was traveling around New Zealand and taking pictures to make a video. He also shared that he caught a glimpse of the Southern lights a few weeks before (something I really wanted to see, but again it’s about timing) The lighting was amazing, and the rocks were just as interesting as well. If you’re driving around this area, these are something marvelous to see. I hope you add this to your list of things to see while in New Zealand. Bon Voyage!
