About Moi

Hi! My name is Rachel. I graduated from Ohio State University, Go Bucks!, in 2012. After graduating, I decided to take a risk and live in New Zealand for a year instead of getting a big kid job. It was my first taste of wanderlust, and now I’ve been to Australia and most of Southeast Asia. Now I’m in France (finally setting in one place for a while) and now I have time to reflect and share my thoughts. I wanted to keep my family and friends posted on my travels and encourage others to travel as well. Some people would say I am optimistic, but I think I am just random and drum to my own beat. I remember when I was in third grade, we were doing an art project, and my teacher came by and was like “O, wow Rachel. That’s different from everyone else, but you’re still completing the project.” When she told me this I didn’t think nothing of it, but now that I am older I guess it’s true. You can say I think differently from everyone else, but I am still completing the project of life. (cheesy and corny I know) But what I really hope to accomplish is to inspire people to travel or just go and follow their dreams, and to give them tips on how I did this. I hope you enjoy this, and if there is anything you want to know just ask 🙂

Random Information

  • I was born in the Philippines and moved to the USA
  • I worked at Disney World (one of the best experiences in my life)
  • I really do enjoy long walks on the beach; I like the feeling of the sand on your feet (as long as the sand is not too hot)
  • I love talking to people who are passionate about something; their eyes get big and they have the biggest smile across their face like it’s Christmas morning
  • I like to give something a try before I judge it
  • I’ve tried chicken heart before… Not by choice
  • I like cracking Crème brûlées with a spoon
  • I enjoy meeting new people
  • I like being introduce to new music and dancing
  • I LOVE pandas; on my bucket list is to hold a baby panda
  • I love getting lost in a good book, a book store, a library, a new city, or talking to someone
  • I enjoy watching a nice sunrise or a sunset (a nice beer makes it that much better)
  • I like to enjoy the simple things in life
  • After traveling, I want to learn a new language and want to have a garden (I could make this list longer, but decided not to)

Why Swim to the boat?
A random domain name? But I saw a quote that stated:

“Do no wait for your ship to come in, swim out to it” – Author unknown

When I read this, it just really inspired myself that I need to take actions if I want to accomplish this goal of traveling. But I also know that the swim won’t be easy. I believe that the things in life that are worth aren’t always the easiest. There will be times when a storm will come and make it difficult for myself. Or that the swim is to long, and I may get tired swimming. Or moments when it will feel like I will never get to the boat. But I have to be like Dora from Finding Nemo and “Just keep swimming.” I know it is better to try rather than wait for something to happen. Which I hope encourages you to take actions for your dream if you want to accomplish them because as Walt Disney would say “Nothing is impossible, just impassable”
